Why there are no bath towels on our boat

Bath towels take up a lot of space, especially on a narrowboat, and can be a nuisance when damp. But you don't need them!

This is a tip told to me by my Uncle Jim, who in the 1930s was living in London with very limited laundry facilities. He came up with this solution: After you have washed and rinsed, first dry yourself with a flannel. This may sound a bit mad but it will soak up about 90% of the wetness. Then finish off with a hand towel. The flannel is easy to dry, the hand towel is barely damp.

As they are small, you can store several flannels and change them regularly. Or wash them out by hand. As the hand towel barely gets damp, it doesn't need changing as often as a bath towel and takes up less space in the heated cupboard.

This tip saves space and limits the amount of damp stuff on board.

Thanks Uncle Jim!
